A 49 year old railroad brakeman who was injured on his job at Conrail, sustained herniated cervical discs, which prevented him from resuming employment. He was injured while adjusting a misaligned drawbar in the course of coupling rail cars in defendant's Fontier Classification Yard.

The jury set past and future damages at $5,437,000, agreeing with the Beltz office that defendant violated the Federal Safety Appliance Act.
