Wrongful Death Action for Worker Killed in Bridge Collapse Settled for $3.2 million
The plaintiff's decedent, who was part of a road work crew in Chautauqua County, was driving a pickup truck over the bridge when it collapsed suddenly. The collapse occurred just after another worker had driven a 16 ton crane over the bridge, which had been built in 1905 and was allegedly posted with an 8 ton limit.

The plaintiff's distributees sued for the pecuniary loss caused by his untimely and wrongful death. Although the defendants hotly contested liability before, during, and after trial, they nevertheless ultimately agreed to settle the case for $3.2 million.
